Passports may be required in 2008

• December 31, 2005 – Passport or other accepted document required for all travel (air/sea) to or from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Central and South America.
• December 31, 2006 – Passport or other accepted document required for all air and sea travel to or from Mexico and Canada.
• December 31, 2007 – Passport or other accepted document required for all air, sea and land border crossings.

Go to www.travel.state.gov/passport/index.html for information on how to get or renew your passport. The process may take a few months.
First, you need to obtain a certified birth certificate. (click on link for how to do this or contact the county court house where you were born.
Next, you must obtain two photos. Most Walgreen Drug Stores will offer this service. If not, they may refer you to who does in your area. The post office or court house can be of help too.
Then, you must go to your local county court house or post office with all your papers for them to verify your identity and to sign your application in front of an agent. Not all post offices offer this service so call first.
And lastly, mail your application.
Depending on the time of year it could take two to eight weeks to get your passport.
